A new £1m organic farm centre has opened in Devon with a view to reconnecting people with food, farming and the countryside.

Occombe Farm, Paignton, is the result of five years’ planning and features a farm shop, nature trail, on-site bakery and butchery, education centre and caf.

It is now leased by the Torbay Coast and Countryside Trust, which has developed the farm centre.

“We want to get people to think about the food they buy – where it comes from and how it’s grown,” said Trust director Dominic Acland at the launch.

The farm has its own organic Ruby Red cattle and Dorset Down sheep, and will source up to £620,000 of local produce from organic and environmentally friendly farmers.
