The first of two days’ selling to disperse the noted Pinebreck Holstein herd began at Beeston Castle on Monday with a joint top price of 2800gns.

There were 20 bids over 2000gns for the first half of the 600-plus cattle offered by Norfolk dairy farmers J & P Wright.

First at 2800gns was Pinebreck Juror Perfume 3rd, a fresh third calver out of a Bonus dam.

She had given just over 10,000 litres with her second and heads for Herefordshire with Peter Andrews.

Matching the bid were Cumbria farmers Robert Emerson & Son, Penrith.

They secured a fresh second calver by Pinebreck Progress Obote out of an Eastlands Figaro cow that goes back to Calbrett Leadman Athena.

Messrs Evans, Aberystwyth, were in at 2500gns to take a Duncan Progress third calver.

She had given 12,300 litres with her second.

There were two 2450gns bids.

The fresh third calver Pinebreck Lee Cleopatra, who had given over 10,000 litres as a heifer, joins the Market Harborough herd of I Gilbert while Nantwich dairy farmers J R Williamson & Co took a fresh third-calver by Miley Gilbert.

Averages: 244 cows and milking heifers 1269 and nine in-calf heifers 1081.
