Pork processor Tulip to get £16m investment boost

A major pork processor is to invest £16m in its Cornish plants.

Tulip and its parent company Danish Crown Group have planned a major investment in deboning facilities at Bugle and new drying and curing capacity at its Redruth site.

The plans are predicted to create about 250 jobs and are part-funded by a £4.8m grant from the UK’s regional development fund.

Danish Crown announced in January it was ending production in Faaborg, Denmark, and was weighing up a move to Poland, Germany or the UK.

It decided to switch the deboning operation to Bugle as Tulip already has 17 facilities across the UK and much of Faaborg’s output comes to Britain.

“The UK production will need some minor restricting, but then we will be able to secure the future of the site,” said Flemming Enevoldsen, CEO of Danish Crown’s processing companies.
