Red diesel prices rocket by 1p/litre each week

Red diesel prices have risen steadily over recent weeks.

Last Wednesday (24 March) spot rates stood at 52p/litre, some 6p higher than six weeks previously.

According to West Midlands fuel supplier Jim Callow, much of the increase was down to the strengthening pound.

As Farmers Weekly went to press, spot rates stood at 52p/litre, some 6p higher than six weeks previously.

According to West Midlands fuel supplier Jim Callow, much of the increase is down to the strengthening pound although the impending Budget has had a marked effect.

“For the last six or seven years we’ve seen prices rise on the back of expected announcements about increases in duty.

“This year has been the same and we’re expecting to see the usual fall after Mr Darling’s announcement.”

Pundits across the oil industry are universally suggesting price rises over the medium to long-term.
