Farming has the major resource of land to serve the renewables sector but this has to be done without affecting food production.

That was the message delivered by Farmers Weekly Green Energy Farmer of the Year 2012, Steve Edmunds, speaking at the Energy Now Expo in Telford.

“I see renewables as being the biggest revolution for farming for 30 years,” he said. But farmers had to broaden their thinking before investing in technology.

“Unlike buying a new tractor that may be kept for seven years, renewable energy equipment has a lifespan of 20 years. Don’t just go for the cheapest. Look at maintenance and service options.”
