Ringside at Dingwall & Highland Marts, Scotland

Fort William, Scotland. Dingwall & Highland Marts sold 1,703 store sheep at Tuesday’s (10 September) sale, with lambs averaging £36.02 a head.


A Cheviot scooped the day’s top price of £66.50, with Suffolk crosses reaching £59.50 and Blackfaces £45. Ewes sold to £41 apiece, with feeding sheep reaching £44.


In Dingwall, 1,098 prime sheep went under the hammer, with new season lambs averaging 164p/kg – 7.4p down on the previous week. A pen of 44kg Beltex crosses topped at 177.2p/kg, and the SQQ averaged 166.1p/kg. Prime sheep sold to £90 apiece.


In the cattle ring, prime bullocks averaged 235.1p/kg and sold to 258p for a Limousin cross, while heifers peaked at 253p for a Charolais cross, and levelled at 239p/kg.
