Hoggets met a super trade again at last Thursday’s (4 April) sale, although numbers were light at 144 head. Two pens of 46.5kg hoggets from Messrs Beavan, Plascelyn, sold to a top of £98 apiece, or 210.8p/kg, with many others fetching between £90 and £98. Most trade settled between 200 and 210p/kg, with the whole day levelling at £84.32 a head, or 202p/kg.
The two lots of spring lambs forward also sold well, with 39.5kg pens from Mike Lloyd fetching £96, and 37kg lambs from Messrs Watkins, Caenantmelyn, going for £94.
Overall, 36kg lambs averaged 171p/kg, with 43kg types at 209p/kg, 48kg weights at 208p/kg and heavy 52kg hoggets at 188p/kg.
