Ringside: Thrapston livestock centre in Northamptonshire had a good show of sheep at last week’s primestock sale, with 635 new season lambs sold. Prices topped at about 190p/kg and most weights averaged close to 180p/kg, equivalent to £70 a head, which auctioneer Henry H Bletsoe described as “a sensible return on the week’s trade”.
A handful (13) of hoggets fetched £40-50 a head as trade fell away and 33 cull ewes met good demand to average £50 a head, with top price of £69.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s (13 June) store sale saw a good offering of store cattle, with Limousin heifers fetching £590 and Simmental heifers £642. Aberdeen Angus steers 9-14 months old did £452 and another batch of Limousin steers £745.
