An entry of more than 1,100 lambs forward on Monday (28 October) at North West Auctions, Lancaster, sold to a strong trade with the majority being heavy lambs and handy-weight lambs short of buyers’ requirements.
Lambs sold to an average of 171p/kg topping at 210p/kg from R & DM Cardwell of Moss Side Farm selling a smart Texel lamb, with other good-quality Texel lambs selling between 180p/kg and 190p/kg.
The top price of the day was £90 for a heavyweight lamb. Mules sold to 174p/kg with all mules forward averaging 166p/kg.
Cast sheep continued to be a similar trade with good continental ewes continuing to be in strong demand and good to sell.
