Ringside: Plenty of fat lambs at Bala market

Ringside at… Bala Livestock Market, Gwynedd. Double the number of fat lambs sold at Thursday’s (30 June) sale, compared to the same week last year, with 1,857 head going under the hammer.



Overall, lambs averaged 206.79p/kg, 40p/kg up on the year, with numerous buyers in attendance, said auctioneer Richard Jones.


Light lambs peaked at 222p/kg for Mr JW Jones, Rhosygwaliau, and averaged 207.25p/kg.


Super light weights reached 208p/kg, and averaged 202.79p/kg, with medium weights selling to 217p/kg and settling at 205.09p/kg.


Standard lambs sold to 218p/kg and averaged 207.09p/kg. Just two heavy lambs were brought forward, selling at 173.47p/kg for Messrs AG & G Rowlands, Lidiardau. Cull ewes fetched £70 a head, with a few hoggets averaging 126.11p/kg.
