Robert Wiseman increases milk price

Robert Wiseman Dairies has topped the milk price offered by rivals Arla Foods.

The dairy processor announced it will pay 25.7p/litres from 1 October, an increase of 3.48p for a standard litre.

The increase exceeded the top end of the dairy’s estimates, after it said two weeks ago that it expected to pay 24p/litre by November.

‘Unprecedented’

Pete Nicholson, Wiseman’s director of milk procurement, said “unprecedented” movements in the milk market meant it was impossible to predict how prices were going to alter.

“But against this volatile backdrop, our approach to milk procurement will remain consistent,” he said.

‘Ahead of the market’

“We will continue to offer those who supply us with a secure, long term home for milk underpinned by one of the best farm gate milk prices available in the UK.”

Andrew Bloor, chairman of the Wiseman Milk Partnership said Wiseman had signalled its intention to stay ahead of the market.

“We are confident that the company will continue to meet this commitment,” he added.
