Farmers are being warned about a bogus email which appears to come from the Rural Payments Agency (RPA) but in fact contains a computer virus.
The RPA said it is aware the email is being sent to some of its customers who use the cattle tracing system (CTS) or the Single Payment Scheme (SPS) online systems.
The email claims to be from the Government Gateway and tells the recipient that a transaction or payment could not be processed.
The email is being sent from the address “email@example.com”.
In a statement on its website the RPA said: “This is not a communication from the Rural Payments Agency or the Government Gateway.
“Please do not respond to the email and delete it immediately. The email has an attachment which should not be opened as it contains a virus.”
