The British Wool Marketing Board has received a record response in the nominations for a new South West regional board member.

Six sheep producers have nominated themselves for the position, the highest number recorded in the board’s 56 year history.

Frank Langrish, BWMB chairman, said the unprecedented number of nominations was a positive response at a time of disappointing wool prices.

“In the short term it looks as though wool prices will remain at their current low level but this record number of nominations only goes to prove that producers remain committed to wool despite the present difficulties.”

Response to the BWMB’s Welsh regional board member election was also positive, with three producers putting themselves forward.

Registered producers will receive voting papers on 1 February, which must be returned to the BWMB by 22 February.
