Showcase for quality in south west
Interested in beef production in the south west?
Then make a date to attend the Beef and Growing Cattle South West 2006 event on Thursday, 7 September at Hatherleigh Livestock Centre, Devon, supported by Farmers Weekly.
First staged in 2004, the event this year will again have the best in quality beef production in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Dorset and Wiltshire.
“The 2004 show triumphed in putting West Country beef back on the map, showcasing its superior quality and the excellent way it is reared here in the South West,” said Bill Harper, Devon beef producer and chairman of the organising committee.
“This year’s event will be even bigger with some exciting innovations.”
More than 250 cattle will be on display, providing the chance to compare beef breeds, cross-breds and dairy beef calves for the store or finished market.
The event, designed to attract a wide cross-section of beef producers and meat buyers, will include a primestock show, with classes for commercial cattle including owner-bred cattle, and young farmers’ stock judging.
The importance of quality carcass production will be highlighted in the CMA Hoof and Hook competition offering producers and meat buyers the chance to evaluate 20 continental and native breed carcasses.
The event is organised by the National Beef Association South West, sponsored by English Beef & Lamb Executive, NatWest, Southern Counties Fresh Foods, Mole Valley Farmers, Dectomax, Keenan and Shearwell Data, and supported by Farmers Weekly and the Western Morning News.
