South-west farmers offered interest-free business loans

Farmers wanting to set up or expand a business in Cornwall are being urged to take advantage of interest-free loans before the Objective One project closes.

The South-West Investment Group (SWIG), which specialises in providing help to businesses which benefit the local economy, has £600,000 of investment available until the end of this year.

Individual projects can receive up to £50,000 interest-free, and all the funds are likely to be allocated by September.

The scheme, which has also received investment from Cornwall County Council, has so far awarded nearly £3 million to 220 businesses, helping to generate an additional £12m in sales turnover and creating over 400 new jobs.

Eligible businesses include online marketing ventures or new diversified enterprises, but not primary agriculture.
