Springwells herd to be dispersed

Scotland’s noted Springwells Holstein herd is to be dispersed after an illustrious 40-year stint that culminated in an array of top Holstein trophies throughout the 1970s-80s.

Although several sale options are being considered it’s likely the 150-cow herd will be sold in a private farm-to-farm deal this summer, said Jim Brown, who announced the decision from the speakers’ platform at this week’s Semex Knowledge is Power conference in Glasgow.

The family will now concentrate on the expansion of a retail beef enterprise encompassing its Gaindykehead beef herd in Lanarkshire.
