West Country shoppers can now pick up regionally-produced chicken at their local Tesco store.

This latest regional sourcing initiative is part of Tesco’s ongoing commitment to stock more local products for local people.

Already achieving over £1m in sales a week in the region, locally-produced goods are still very much at the top end of the shopping list for many customers

“Regional sourcing makes sense on so many levels,” says Jo Wren from Tesco.

“It helps to cut down on the carbon foot print, meets the growing demand for locally grown products and supports the local economy. We’ve developed this range in response to our customers telling us they want – quality chicken from the area that’s also affordable.”

The new range of West Country-branded chicken is being produced for Tesco by Lloyd Maunder, part of the 2 Sisters Food Group, which is supplied by family-run farms in Somerset, Gloucestershire, Devon, Dorset and Cornwall.

“We’ve been working towards launching the West Country chicken range for some time,” she adds.

The new West Country label is initially appearing on five of Tesco’s key product lines in the region, including small, medium and large whole birds, breast fillets and thighs.

Further product lines will be switched to feature the West Country-produced chicken for the region’s stores over the coming months, with the aim of having the majority, if not all of the Tesco chicken offering as locally produced.

The West Country chicken range is available at Tesco Metros, Extras and superstores in the region.
