Former chief executive of the Rural Payments Agency Johnston McNeill has finally given evidence to the environment, food and rural affairs select committee about the single farm payment debacle.

Mr McNeill, who was removed from office in March 2005, had cancelled a previous appearance because of ill health.

But the committee agreed to hold a private hearing on Monday, 15 January to enable Mr McNeill to share his thoughts on the crisis.

A transcript of Mr McNeill’s evidence session has been published on its website.
