Vion to source more UK oilseed rape and pulses

A new deal between Vion UK and Openfield promises to create another market for domestically produced oilseed rape and pulses.

The supply chain agreement will see the grain co-op supply a “large proportion” of Vion UK’s oilseed rape and pulse requirements into Grampian at Chettisham, near Ely, for the 2009/10 season.

The crops will be sourced, via Openfield, from local growers and used to produce poultry feed that is sold to UK and other EU customers.

Openfield head of oilseeds, John Thorpe said the deal added to the positive relationship both companies were building with farmers. “We also see NetworkGrain UK as an important supporter of such contracts in the year-round supply of consistent quality crops.”
