Watch Episode Two of the Farmers Apprentice
The second episode of Farmers Apprentice web TV series is available to watch online now.
Hundreds of people clicked onto the Farmers Apprentice website last night, to watch our 10 apprentices get stuck into their second day of tasks at bootcamp.
Titled Pig Business the episode challenged the teams to make a profit throughout the pig supply chain – where a matter of pennies can mean the difference between profit and loss.
In task one they had to prove their livestock handling skills when they were asked to weigh more than 50 pigs and select the best to go to market. In task two they had to add value to the raw pork product by designing and cooking a new brand of flavoured sausages, before presenting them to the judges for a tasting.
The series has been widely praised by viewers since it launched.
“Thank you for doing an episode on pigs and thank you for saying how farmers do struggle to earn those few important pennies,” commented one viewer on YouTube.
“Interesting and informative programme, heavens knows why this is not on TV,” said @FarmerChunk on Twitter.
The five-part series follows 10 farming hopefuls at bootcamp as they compete for a £10,000 prize to kick-start their career in agriculture.
All the tasks they encounter reflect real life farming challenges, from handling livestock and using GPS technology, to navigating a top-of-the range tractor and presenting a business pitch to a panel of high-profile judges.
