Well-equipped Somerset dairy on offer

One of the largest, best-equipped dairy farms to be offered for years, Manor Farm Dairy at Downhead, sits between Shepton Mallet and Frome in Somerset.

The 223-acre holding carries 1,300 cows and is for sale with a guide price in excess of £4m, with no dwellings.

It is described as a first-class commercial dairy farm. Built up by the vendor, who has decided to come out of milk production, its extensive buildings include a 64-point DeLaval rotary milking parlour and comprehensive modern farm buildings.

The productive grassland and arable land is farmed alongside additional rented land and forage crops grown on contract.

The buildings at Manor Farm provide state-of-the-art facilities, says Sophie Clotworthy of Savills, and include three large open-span buildings with cubicles, silage pits and slurry facilities, which are providing year-round accommodation for a 1,300-head dairy herd, with the ability to expand still further.

“This is an exciting opportunity for someone,” Ms Clotworthy said. “Farms of this quality and size do not often come up nationally, let alone in the South West.”

The farm could be sold on a lock, stock and barrel basis, she said.
