National Welly Week is set to raise tens of thousands of pounds for the Royal Agricultural Benevolenet Institution after people across the nation took place in welly-related events last week.

Among those happening, all raising funds for the RABI, there was a Welly Salsa Dancing held by Bridgnorth YFC, a welly Speed Dating event run by Muddy Matches in Warwickshire and numerous welly wanging competitions, including one involving NFU Mutual’s Stratford-upon-Avon head office staff.

The winner of this was Rob Jones, with a wang of 26.6m, narrowly beating NFU Mutual press officer Tim Price into second place. “Lack of experience in this sport produced some disappointing throws,” laughed Tim. “One contestant even managed to make their welly come back like a boomerang.”

Students at Moulton College, meanwhile, took part in a Welly Tractor pull (pictured), tugging a tractor for 100 yards. Each team had nine members (with at least one girl in each) and, with every student getting sponsorship from friends and family, about £400 raised.
