Wiltshire poultry unit comes to market

Retirement brings a 230,000-bird poultry unit to the market in Wiltshire next week.

Leaze Farm at Bulkington near Devizes is on the market for the first time in more than 30 years. It has six modern houses over 104,000sq ft, as well as ancillary buildings including straw barns, workshop, office and rest room.

The farm is for sale as whole or in two lots and includes a modern four-bedroom bungalow with an agricultural occupancy condition and an annexe. These and the buildings make up the main lot across about six acres while the second lot comprises a level grass paddock of 10-and-a-half acres of Grade 3 land.

There is also a telephone mast producing an annual rent of £4,000 and where the lease has a further seven years to run.

With scope for further development, the unit would suit existing producers looking to expand or farmers seeking to diversify, said Charles Lucas of selling agent Chesterton Humberts, which has set an overall guide price of £1.6m.

All six growing buildings have individual automatic temperature control and auto feeding and drinking systems. There is also an alarm system with CCTV and standby generators. Chicken litter and slurry are exchanged for straw with a farmer nearby.
