The second production sale from Northern Ireland breeder Andrew Craig saw 60 Belgian Blue cattle from his noted Woodview herd make the journey to Carlisle, with the top-priced cow and calf heading straight back again at 6800gns.

In fact, Northern Ireland bidders claimed the four highest-priced lots. But it was G Beacom from Crevenish who held off the opposition to secure Woodview Uni, a powerful first-calf heifer by Seduisant De Fooz suckling a February-born heifer calf by Gitan Du Pitit Mayeur.

Uni is out of the herd’s renowned show cow Woodview Oprah.

Victoria and John Workman from Co Antrim paid 6500gns for the five-month-old heifer calf Woodview Bambie.

She was suckling her recipient dam and is an ET-bred calf from another successful flush from Woodview Trixie and sired by Dafydd d’Ochain.

Bound for Co Down with James Annett at 6000gns was Woodview Vanessa.

This long and stylish served heifer is by the black sire Balto de Steinbach and out of Ridge Dean Tiffany.

She was junior female champion at the 2005 Royal Highland Show and is in-calf to Dafydd d’Ochain.

A 5200gns call from S Milliken, Coleraine, secured the maiden heifer Woodview Aleaha – by Dafydd d’Ochain and out of Woodview Trixie.

Bulls reached 4600gns when North Yorks breeder K Stones took Woodview Alec, a 13-month-old son of Affute du Ry Ossogne.

He had a carcass yield index of +14, which is +5 above breed average.

Averages: 18 maiden heifers £2502, three served heifers £3535, six cows and calves £3650, four served cows £2600, 18 FOT calves with dams £3565 and 10 bulls £2583 (Harrison & Hetherington).
