Farm supply group Wynnstay has bought out Welsh competitor Quins Farm Supplies, based at Newtown, Powys.
Quins owns country stores in Welshpool and Newtown, which specialise in animal health and nutrition products, as well as sporting goods.
Financial director, Paul Roberts, said the £380,000 cost of the transaction was mainly to buy the goodwill of the company.
Wynnstay plans to close the two stores, and hopes to redirect customers to its own outlets in the towns, which have undergone facelifts costing more than £1m in total.
There is also some valuable stock at Quins which will be transferred to Wynnstay.
In a further acquisition, Wynnstay horse and pet feeds joint venture, Young’s, has bought Dollin & Morris for £180,000.
The new business also specialises in pet feeds.
