feed for cows, dry matter intake, good quality silage

Scanned around Newcastle, Co Tipperary, Ireland this week. young stock are out and about. There is absoutely no feed  for cows- no grass. With the night frosts there will not be  grass ahead of cows for the foreseeable future.  This will give rise to problems in terms of dry matter intake and body condition.loss amongly freshly calved cows.  I strongly recommend  concentrate supplementation in addition to adequately buffer with good quality silages.

thanks for comment. Supplement would depend on the demand of the cows in terms of  the level of  milk production.  Cows should not  loose no more than 50 kgs of body weight within the first 60 days post calving.  Re  copper and cobolt  issue you should seek advice from your vet.
