Travelling back this afternoon from Scartaglen, Co. Kerry to Kilgarvan in Co. Kerry where the scenery entails a lot of very poor land with a backdrop of the mountains heading back to Kenmare. There are very few dairy farms in this area on the drive with sheep and suckler cows being the main farm activities. There are many new houses built along this route as evidence of the Celtic Tiger period. Unfortunately, many of these individuals today are unemployed because of business’s closing down in the region. From a socio economic perspective, rural living can become very difficult if job opportunities do not pertain in the local area.
