We will get it all sorted, eventually. Low temperatures make things very brittle and fragile. New roof is being quoted for just now, new toolbox will have to wait.

-14 its warmer over hear at the moment +5last time i looked. The water in the beef barn froze up under ground when the tempriture hit -38c so for the rest of winter we have to haule water from the house to the barn with the 1/2tonne

Since the Glasgow attacks UK airports have very tight heavily armed security. I see two terror suspects have been arrested trying to get to Helsinki, perhaps now the Finns may actually take the threat they face seriously.

Refering to your top paragraph, about the weather. It seems you may be in luck as a change in the weather is in prospect in early September. Please read my mothers old fashioned forcast on my blog 22.08.08.

In the 1950's she was better than any Met office bods,

now of coarse with satellites and the rest they never mention the phases of the moon.

i used to fly out of heatrow every 6 weeks and would go back throuhg 2 weeks later and onley ever saw 2 armed police in 2 years.

If the topper is an old banger then why not drill the hole bigger to take a stronger shear bolt, it will not be so infuriating and may help it to disintegrate a bit quicker. In one of mine I was able to drill a second hole and it took a pair of shear bolts. It kept going for years.

its most infuriating habit is breaking shear bolts, several an hour.

HAHA TELL ME ABOUT IT!! When its boiling hot and it happens and toppings the last thing you want to do - you just want to scrap the bloody thing!!

Certainly not! Internet connection has been a bit slow all those trucks are using up the bandwidth as they wait to cross the border. Followed a very hesitant UK truck today as he made his way along, I hope he had a special permit as he did not queue up as usual. The UK and US look pretty poor economies from here. Russia and the Euro zone seem to be doing pretty well, fuel is not very expensive at 1.30Eur a litre and shop prices are similar for clothes and less for food. The local markets are full of good fresh veg, all they need to make it perfect would be some good Scottish beef,

The border is a short distance away, but the bears get any Russians the border guard miss. It is dry sunny and warm, the Baltic is like a lake, the fish are jumping, beef on the barbie, Bliss.

Still really peeved by the Macaulay videos. Farmers are not at all like any of the scenarios outlined,( they are not all white mono cultural old men either) in fact we got past most of the stuff discussed 10 years ago. Maybe its time someone from there read what goes on here and learns something about the rural areas from the real experts, farmers.

There are alot of pople saying they will get out of sheep and it is getting to the point where it isn't empty threats. It is make or break for many sheep producers at the moment.
