Yet another bad weather forecast

My predictions for bad weather(actually I just pass on what the forecast says) have generally been unfounded since getting on the forum.  Hopefully this will go the same way.  We are forecast to get one inch of ice starting tonight into tomorrow.  You can bet on losing the power if that happens, lost it for 5 and a half days last time, playing pioneer stopped being fun at the end of the first day.  I am going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.  I cannot figure out since the lines are carrying electricity why no one ever thought of putting some sort of deicing wire around the lines that would power up at the throw of a switch and heat the line like heat tape, I presume it is too costly an idea, but all the new poles and wire, plus triple time for linemen can't be cheap either.

Well, the rain is coming down hard, ice is forming on the power lines and trees.  The radio says that a half million are already without power to the south of us in Oklahoma.  That is a little more impressive to you Brits if you figure there might be 3 or 4 million in Oklahoma tops.  The radio says this may be a "devastating" storm, with 2 inches of ice now possible.  I ground feed until a quarter of 8, we've put new batteries in all the flashlights and radio, bought food we don't need to cook, washing clothes like mad.  Put as much hay as I could out tonight, the TV is already out, we are hoping this thing is all bluff.  I guess if you want to check on us in Kansas go to www.kwch.com , that is the Wichita TV station, might be rid of me on the forum for a while, adios for now.

It is right at freezing and it appears that we are going to stay south of the bad ice, or rather in between it, there was bad icing to the south and according to the web Kansas is in a state of emergency.  But here, we just have a thin glaze of ice, but it is a steady cold rain.  Might get to spend some time on the forum today after all.

We lucked out.  Only lost power for 8 hours.  We got 2 inches of rain which made it a cold sloppy mess, but we did need the rain, and the forecast isn't too bad for the rest of the week.  Some counties not too far away didn't fare as well, I have even heard the term "civil emergency" used on the radio to describe the situation.

Kansas,

The French wheat traders say watch the March 08 wheat futures on Monday, it will probably warm you up!

Bon courage,
