Taxes like death are one of the only things we can be sure of. As a nation we have enjoyed, and still do a halcyon time, we are taxed heavily and the government provides services such as NHS. National debt has been a problem for many generations - oh the time of the sinking fund pre-dates the conflict to which you refer.

I don't endorse the present government's response, but Crash is simply trying to purchase an election victory. The biggest problem we are faced with is an erosion of freedom and liberty; this is the social problem in Britain. We are sleep walking into a Statist situation where even now we are subject to more controls than Stalin achieved except for the gulags, but give smudge smith time and she will see to that.

What you are living through are times that we had in the early to mid 20th century when our competitive edge was eroded, cumulating in the way Roosevelt was able to lever Churchill out of the trading group commonly called the British empire. Life carried on and all is well. You are faced with a resurgent China and Asia where their competitive edge is people and teamwork. Just as the 19th century was British, the 20th Century was American so the 21st century will be Chinese.
