so far this week i have drilled wheat with thousand grain weights between 42 to 64 now to achieve a seed rate of 300 seeds per meter i have had to sow at rates of 125kg ha up to 190kg ha . No adjustment is made for this when buying seed it simple comes in 500kg bags but i've been thinking at £400 a ton using these seed rates to get my 300 seeds a meter the cost per acre comes in at between  £20 and £30.76p quiet a differance perhaps seed should be sold in ha sized bags (as is the case with oilseed rape) so we know the cost per acre and also dont run out of seed when the stuff turns up with a very high tgw .

Very exciting just got asked to do an interview on local news, Yes it could have been about any of the big farming topics, single farm payments, els, food shortages but no the tricky little question on the minds of the people i got ask was why are there so many poppies this year ?? move over jeremy vine i can feel a hot topic question and answer show coming my way right now!

Combine serviced and cab cleared out check, trailers ready check, roundup in the store and ready to go check, while this rain my do the wheat some good i think its having a rather undesired effect on the winter barley. with 4 weeks of more normal rain fall many of the tillers that died in May have seemed to have regrown leaving me with a crop at two differant stages no doubt it will still pass for malting though as it was sold last harvest at what now is a rather naf price!

there is nothing more annoying than getting the combine set up in a field getting nicely started and the heavens opening again but this has been the way harvest gone so far. managed to get half the winter barley doing about 3 ton in but the straws still laid out and getting wetter all the time kind of wish id put the chopper in gear then at least we could have got the stubble turnips drilled. the wheats turning fast but i think thats more to do with the level of disease that natural ripening, robigus and full o rust even after a t3 which is something I've never had to do before. at least i have the new tractor coming this week and plenty of setaside topping to put it to work on if its to wet to progress with the harvest
