Shearing competition entries rolling in
Entries are coming in for the sheep shearing competitions from some of world’s leading operators. We’ve got a series of all day activities lined up for the event starting with the Open Sheep Shearing Competition that will feature not only a team of top UK shearers, but also entrants from overseas. Managed under the rule of the British Isles Shearing Competition Association, some of its members have been invited to do the judging.  We’re also hosting the English Shearer of the Year with more than £3,000 at stake. This award will feature an open section for shearers who have already competed in a minimum of six qualifying events this season, while the senior, intermediate and junior sections are for shearers who have attended at least three shows. The winners of each section will be awarded shearing equipment worth a total of £2,100, while each finalist will receive prize money totalling £1,000. The shearing competitions always prove to be a bit of a marathon that attracts crowds throughout the day. The audience never seem to tire of watching the more experienced, learn a few extra skills and techniques and also catch up on the BWMB’s requirements when it comes to fleece preparation, handling and wrapping.NSA Sheep 2010 organiser, Helen Davies
