Being Really Cross

I am cross. Last week I was cross. Cross enough to delete all my computer accounts at various sites. This week I am properly cross. My agronomist is paid to walk the fields often, and identify weeds when they are small so they can be delt with. Two fields that looked great and I was assured did not need any spray have erupted this week with wild oats that will have to be rogued. I am going on holiday tomorrow, and I can bet that by the time I am back the weather will have turned and the seed will be on the floor by the time it dries enough to walk the soil.

The point of a vastly reduced tillage system is not so much the reduction in fuel or time. It is the keeping of weed seeds where they will germinate easily, and their slow eradication. if I dont get these rogued, that will mess up several years of good practise. I dont like a scruffy farm, and that is what it is.

Name and address of poorly performing agronomist can be suppiled.

Grump.

I hope your holiday leaves you relaxed rather than cross!

Can you get any redress from your agronomist? At the very least he/she ought to be sorting it out for you while you are away. Shocking. I hope it gets sorted.

Hey, less of the blame culture . It's ultimately the farmers responsibilty. Try more crop walking and less holiday. I`ve just found sclerotinia in one field of rape, it had the full fungicide programme just like the other fields but it's not my agronomists fault not alerting me to a second sporulation. My problem, my loss and my responsibility.

Crop walking aint my bag. I am busy with my real job. I pay an agronomist to do it.

So actually it is their responsibilty. Just like it is my lawyers responsibility to give me good and sound legal advice. That is after all what I pay them for.

I did walk the crop. I saw the weeds. I asked the chap to do me a rec to spray the lot. I was assured there was no problem. I cannot identify weeds as one/two leaf etc stage - again another reason why I pay a chap to do it for me. I am not BASIS qualified. Again, I pay a chap who is.

Result - lots of crop walking to do the roguing.

I also dont think 3 days holiday in 4 1/2 years is much.
