    2000 beef cattle....

.... is what a farmer down the road from me has got. What sort of headage payment would he be getting a year. All he does is faten them up for end use at Marks and Spencer. I think they are on his farm for about 10-15 weeks before being sent off to the sandwich maker.

Try looking in John Nix, Farm Management Pocketbook, or similar, will give you all the info you need. Also it all depends whether he buys them in on a blue or green passport to what Beef Special Premium he can claim, also weather they are bulls, heifers or steers. Though he will be getting about £50 per animal Sloughter Premium. But give it untill the spring of 2005 then these payments will be phased out and single farm payments introduces due to the Mid Term Review of CAP.

Dont think he has any forage area to be honest. I know he feeds them with stuff like apples and guiness left overs. He also will travel miles to buy silage bales etc. All his land is down to wheat and rape.
