    A few changes to design

As you will have noticed, we have managed to make a few minor changes to FWiSpace which should help you to make the most of it.

    The main points are:

    • A shortcuts box at the top right hand side of the page.
    • A trail to enable you to navigate through the forum more easily ie

Home » General Forums » Talking Point

    • The All Galleries link in the photos section has been moved to the top of the page
    • A redesign of the front page so it also displays the latest pictures on the site

There are a few minor bits and pieces which I'll add to the lisy shortly. I hope you find it useful and if you have any comments let me know.

    Regards,

    Isabel - FW Community Editor

Glad you like the pictures. I'm a little concerned that since the change the front page has been slow to load - but we're looking into it at our end.

If it is proving too frustrating for you in the meantime, add this link to your favourites as it takes you straight into the forums:

Could we have the thread link at the bottom of the page as well as the top? I am too lazy to scroll all the way up sometimes.

I will ask. The speed issue is my priority at the moment. Geeked

Being a Republican I am slow to accept change, but do when I have to. One thing I am having trouble accepting is that now the forum is too big for my computer screen, ie when I read posts part of the post is outside of the screen.

We haven't changed the layout of the forums, so I am perplexed. What is your screen size and what internet browser do you use?

Well, it was as big as I could buy, 15 or 17 inches?  Big enough I would think.  Microsoft internet explorer is our browser.  May not be a problem on your end, but didn't start until your change.

Do you know which version of Internet Explorer? Could it be 6 or 7 (It is 7 if it allows you to open new tabs along the top)

Did you get me email KF? Has that solved it?

Got your email Isabel, still can't fix it.  I am trying to find someone smarter than I am(there are many) to talk me through it over the phone, so far no luck.

Re: A few changes to design

As you may have noticed - if you press the forums and photos button on the FWi homepage it is now bringing you straight into the fourms. This is a temporary measure while we investigate what is slowing down the loading of the FWiSpace Homepage. Flicking between forums, blogs and pictures is working as normal but if you press the 'Home' button on the left  hand side you will see that things slow down. We're working to fix it and we'll let you know when things are back to normal.

We are now getting closer to solving the slow loading on the homepage. It has taken several days of investigation but we think we've identified the issue. Now just a case of fixing it.

Thanks for your patience! Big Smile

In the last hour we've released a 'fix' which should mean that the homepage of FWiSpace (the one with the new thumbnail pictures) should load much faster than it has been doing so in the past week. Hope you find it better.

Re: A few changes to design

Just to add - if you still think things are too slow - let me know. We will then have work our between us - and by that I mean with you - whether the improvements to the homepage are worth having or not. We could roll it back to what we had before - although people do seem to like the thumnail pictures on the front.

Finally, our technical man tells me that now the change has been made, it could be worth clearing out your internet cache. If you use Internet Explorer all you need to do is press the 'tools' button in your internet browser options and then click on the 'Internet Options'. You will then get a section that is marked 'Browsing history'.

If you have Internet Explorer 6 then press the delete files option, which then gets you to confirm you want to delete your temporary internet files. If you have Internet Explorer version 7 there will be a button under the browsing history section marked 'Delete...' Press it and then press the 'Delete Files' option at the top of the page.

This should speed up your internet browsing whatever site you are on.
