Just Wondering How Old You Have To Be To Drive A Fastrac On The Road. Because The Main Corn Cart Machine At Work Is A Fastrac 2170. Help??

Hi Sam!

Right, having spoken to someone in the know (the man behind the bible that is 'Agricultural Vehicles on the Road') there are no restrictions on driving a Fastrac having passed your tractor test at 16, as long as it's in agricultural use and not licensed as a haulage vehicle (i.e. filled up with white diesel instead of red).

But, you may have a bit of an issue with the insurance company - they prefer you to be 17 when driving a Fastrac. So just make sure your boss has informed them and everything should be ok!

Good luck! My first corn cart tractor was a Fastrac 3185 around Windsor. It was my first harvest and i was terrified! In fact, I got done for speeding in Home Park by the Royal Police!

Deary me these women drivers. I guess that is one thing I don't have to worry about even going through the 20mph shared space do dah in town. I couldn't even set the sign off that tells you what speed you're doing if even only 1mph over the 20. But then they're more maneuverable in our yard

Actually while were here - ive got my tractor test in a week or two - any ideas on what i should practice on or anything like that please? I read the article in the FW but just wondered what/if there was a common thing they test?

Ite Boii.. Reverse Round A Corner And Emergency Stop Are The Main Things.. Also, Know Your Road Signs.. You Have To Know 6 Signs At Least.

Cheers lad, and im sure thats highly offensive haha - women are very intelligent species! ;)

 I'm finding that I'm very good at emerancy stops (as in at every junction) with our Telehandler the brakes are some what better than in the old stand on pedal in the tractors.

As for something for you to practice Matty you could try not crashing as I hear they frown upon that ;) . Should also point out you don't get to choose the signs they choose so is an idea to know them all. But you should be ok as if I can get 100% on the theory test for my car licence I'm sure anyone can pass. Just relax and you'll be ok just no speeding and remembering your mirrors.

I am flattered by the compliment (albeit slightly backhanded!)... I don't really know that much - just keep reading the pages of FW and you will know just as much as me! Now, Matty - road signs are a must, as is reversing round a corner. Also, make sure the instructor sees you looking and maneuvering - make it really obvious. And yeah, don't speed... Try and look out for any factors which may become obstacles in the road too - like children, cyclists (grrrr...) and the like. The examiner will give you points for that. Good Luck!!!! p.s. I got another speeding ticket yesterday....

Matty it would be even better if they let you keep them as then they could give me one . I did notice in a 4x4 video that Emily happened to have jumped in to the Porche and made he editor drive the Fiat.

CFH I've never managed to flip a tractor or trailer on to its roof/top just the trailer loaded with soil on its side. Though I did make my mum think I'd tipped to telehandler in a lake as I was longer loading up the trailers than I though which meant it was 22:50 as opposed to 22:00

On A More Serious Note SJK, How Do You Know.? And Where In Kent Do You Come From.?

You can drive an ag vehicle at 16 if it's under 2.45m wide, although towing restrictions are to 2-wheeled or 4-wheeled close-coupled trailers. JCB give the width of a Fastrac 2000 series as 2.35m, not sure about other models, so might be worth bearing this in mind if you want to ensure compliance with the full letter of the law.
