    Banned words on FWi

Today I discovered, see the Charlie Flindt thread, that Vasectom* is a word barred by the FW censorship software. I guess Isabel will put this right and allow it?

However, this brings up the point as to the way in which censorship works and WHO it is and WHY it is that they feel a need to censor what we say or write.

Now; I know that some words (I'm not sure about terms) can be 'too' abusive, and so a Host might wish to limit or ban their use. But under what circumstances do you think FW should exercise this facility?

I will uncheck that word - no need for it to be banned.

The forum software comes with a set of banned words as standard. We went through when we first installed it to uncheck some that we felt were overly censorial, but it looks like a few have crept through.

I think we have to have this facility in operation given that we are a open-to-all website which can be viewed by anyone of any age. What I would say is that people are, on the whole, very polite so the issue doesn't come up very often.

Thanks to Peter my post eventually got past the "Moderator" but I managed to post the word vasectomy as a trial when Jacobus suggested I may have used a forbidden word. What happens to the posts I attempted to get through? I supose they vanish into the ethernet from the internet.

In any event foxer, in his original thread about a dead dog, managed to post a four letter word that should never have got through. It is one of two four lettered words that mean a lady's certain body part.

If any posts get caught up by moderation then drop me an email and I will unearth them. There is a spam filter set to catch the spam adverts for video converters which were, for a while plaguing, the site. On of the things they look for is repeated use of the same term - could that be catching you out?

Thanks I will. But I was not repetitive. I speak English badly (despite my travels I still have a really strong Northumbrian accent - not Geordie, that is Newcastle) but I write reasonably well. I have problems with internet signals and power faults on a regular basis, so use Word for lengthy posts that I particularly wish to appear in the form I write them.
