our service records are kept on a simple ms word file, each bit of kit is allocated a fixed asset cost center which is use as a fleet number and for the service record, a 3 figure prefix indicates its say a vehicle or a bit of cultivating kit etc. the second part is used on the hilton niaomis accounts to book all costs.
in the workshop the fleet number refers to a page in word for each bit of kit & a seperate program called stockman is used to run the stores, it is a basic dos prog that needs windows twiddled with to run ok (shows its age!). it is quite basic in that it works on a 10 digit part no, but allows you to book in & out stock, enter pricing & work out below min reorder levels. it also creates a stock valuation to keep the auditors happy. best £45 spent in 1994.
have looked at many others but they all want to do invoicing etc etc
would be interested to see what you can offer
