    "Controlled Traffic Farming"?

Found this site (looking for Horsch pic!) http://www.controlledtrafficfarming.com/CTFWhatIsCTF.html Is it the Australian version of 'tramlines' or something a bit more technical?

    raised beds

Very similar idea to the raised beds that I grow swedes on, works well for me. I think it would not be practical for cereal growing, perhaps if straw was chopped but I can't imagine farmers not running around with trailers.

Its pretty much tramlines taken to the max from what I understand. All field operations from min till cultivation/direct drilling through to harvest use the same wheel tracks season after season. In order to make this work, all machinery has to run in the same track as the widest - i.e. the combine. Hence you get tractors, sprayers, etc running at 3m track width! They look pretty weird to a European but apparently there's sufficient interest for Deere to offer factory fit wide track kits. There was an article on it in Profi (am I allowed to mention a rival publication here?) a few months back, featuring stretched Fastracs and even big balers. To my mind it would surely be more practical to set track width to suit the tractors and run the combines on duals or tracks but it does make for some interesting pictures! Dave
