Dairy cow, fresh calved blood in all 4 quarters

Got a dairy cow that's had a good few calves over the years, but this time when she was set to calve she went a bit funny.. and sat down in the field eyes dulled and refused to get up (till we'd walked away from her to do something else then she got up and went for a wonder), squeezed out a few quarters expecting the worst but found the had a lot of blood in all quarters, (came out like thick iodine!) it didn't smell and we'd already called the vet who had a look and checked the in side and it was coming out ok (turned out to be huge) injected with anti biotics, anti inflammatory, calcium.. we then calved her and it came out alive.. and she's doing ok.. apart from shitting dark watery stuff. the vet didn't seem to know why she had blood in her quarters so I wondering if anyone else had any ideas? possibly something poisonous? there's still no milk on her and she's quiet (for a normally nastyish cow)

I would say that sounds like an infection and will need to be hit hard with drugs and filled up with fluids. Our vet will usually put advocin and metacam into the vein and fill up with fluids using a pump. Seems to work if caught quick enough.

hi as for the dark *** pump her with pro rumen/fresh cow sachets glycol is also good to keep energy up and the udder we had one last year which had same symptons and it was a ruptured milk vein flowing into the udder it cleared after about a week but every now and again she would have bloody clots in her milk she calved down fine this year.

it was clear last time checked about 6 months ago.. a quick update.. put her in the parlour this afternoon and the quarters were a mix of blood, clear stuff and clots.. so things are looking up! she's eating fine and was in a hurry to get back onto the grass

Just confirmed the records and she's a Johns cow so when she's clear she's off!
