    DEFRA's Food 2030 online discussion

It has been suggested that we should try and get involved in the online discussion about the future of food production/consumption that DEFRA is having at the moment. It has set up an online board and is inviting comments from producers, consumers etc

It says "We would like to hear your views on these issues so that we can make the food system better for the economy, for our environment and for our health and wellbeing."

It is worth reading through some of the comments already up. I haven't finished them yet, but I see there is plenty of discussion about organics and a couple of comments about eating less meat.....

I'll try and pull together a few highlights shortly and then let us see where it takes us. If we get this thread going then I can posts it inot the board so your views are included in the DEFRA debate.

Here are some of the questions they are seeking views on:

  • What are your views on whether and how farming should be made more sustainable so we do not damage our capacity to produce food in the future?
  • How will farming have to change in a world of 9 billion people?
  • What is farming’s role in tackling climate change?
  • How do we meet the growing demand for food while reducing the environmental impact of its production?
  • How does Government, the industry and other interested parties work together to deliver increased production alongside an enhanced environment?
