    Discs vs Tines

    Hi.

We’re looking to experiment with a no-till drill and have been given a lot of advice, all different and none of it is from farmers, just manufactures and retailers.

We liked the look of the Weaving Machinery Caddy which uses discs and were very impressed, especially with the low horsepower requirements; however i have been told that the discs will wear very fast and are expensive to change.

We farm on heavy clay with lots of flints (on the edge of the Chilterns) so the soil does wear metal a lot and makers of tined drills (KRM 1909 soladrill) say tined drills are the only way for us to go.

Does anyone use any no-till drills on hard, wearing ground and which is the way to go, discs or tines?

    Will

We run tines, but have had a combination of both in the past.

The discs can be hard to keep running if the bearings are anyway on the small side.
