Do you have problems dealing with trash and straw during cultivations? Does excess straw in the field influence your cultivation strategy? If so I need your help!

I am a final year Agriculture and Mechanisation student at Harper Adams and have designed a questionnaire in order to help me research the influence of straw on cultivation methods selected by UK farmers. If you would be able to follow the link to my questionnaire and fill it in, that would be greatly appreciated. It should take no more then 5 minutes to complete.

    Thank you very much.

IMPORTANT - For some reason you can not complete the questionnaire unless you tick YES for Q13, and give an answer in Q13a.  Please write 'I answered No' in the box provided on the link, unless you DO find wet straw harder to deal with and bury then dry straw.

     818,

I've filled it in. Let me know if you need more info.

    Good luck with your studies.

    I have submitted.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

    Me too.

Although with the rise of straw burning power stations, straw incorporation is a thing of the past around here! Incorporating all the waste from cities is the new trash problem!

Better tell those who insist on putting it under their beasts that they best find something else.

    Thanks for the reply!

What sort of problems with the trash are you having?  I presume the waste is going on as compost or is it sewage cake/sludge?

I'm no fan of these straw burners at all. Big renewable energy subsidy money is being waved about, and it seems every ruthless business is chasing it to the detriment of everyone else. Livestock either struggle to find straw, or have to pay through the nose for it. Arable are finding the promises made about speedy clearance of fields and early stack clearance aren't true, and as Tesla will agree, the money paid rarely covers the nutrients lost.

818fendt: I'm a big fan of the reversible plough, so trash is no problem to me! I can see that 40t/ha of compost must give at least as much trash as 8t/ha of straw though. Everything I spread is composted, but most stuff applied around here is sludge.
