DOES FARMERS GET SICK OF SHOOTERS

I live in the n/east of england {tyne wear} and i was just wondering if farmers get sick of shooters asking if anyone shoots there land. i traveld all over  northumberland north yorkshire co durham ect to se if any farmer was getting problems with pigeons rabbits ect and asked if anyone was shooting there land and all farmers replied the same. yes there is some one shooting.. i was wondering is there someone shooting or do they get sick of  people nocking on there doors asking to shoot or the other question in my mind was do they not feel safe with a stranger on there land

    thanks shaun

ps looks as though i just have to keep clay shooting on a weekend .......

generally most people will have someone shooting they have known and trusted for years. that is if they don't shoot it themselves and don't want to share! in our case i have two people i let shoot, and i know they cover at least ten farms between them. also they have taught most of the farmers sons in the area to use guns and shoot responsibly. we are very cautious about letting strangers walking around with guns!

thanks for your reply gage.. you said that you are cautious about strangers walking about with guns on your land .but i like most shooters have a shotgun certificut and are fully insured and respect all livestock and property . i like most shooters are very safe with guns. do you think gage that thats why  most farmers say they have someone shooting there land because they are cautious

    thanks again gage

Re: DOES FARMERS GET SICK OF SHOOTERS

in our case i have a large livery yard and cross country course so i need to trust shooters to be extremely aware of horses. i make them phone me first to make sure we have no events on, but still they have to be carefull of the horses. i shoot myself as well, but i close the xc course so we can shoot over the best bits!

people are very cautious of strangers with guns, maybe also people feel that there is a value to the shooting and when people ask they assume it will be free.

Re: DOES FARMERS GET SICK OF SHOOTERS

    Nuf,

You need to find  a farmer  with one of them new-fangled wind turbines on his land . Then all you have to do is go there on a windy day , when the turbine is spinning like buggery , and blast  away at the blade tip when it comes past , doing about 200 miles per hour  !!  Think about it ! That blade tip will be rising , in an arc, at speed , just like  a pheasant  who's swallowed  4-Star !!  You and your mates could have some rare  fun.

Imagine trying to hit the bugger when it reaches the top of the circle and the turbine is 400 feet high? Think of the money you'd save on clays! ?

If you've got  a couple of bazookas  and a Gatling Gun, you could  have  even more fun  !! There's nothing like a moving target to make it exciting  as you blast away !  The wind turbines are useless anyway , so no-one will notice the difference if they get a bit frayed around the tips.

Whatever you do, don't go there if the wind speed is below 12 mph; the blades will be on stop....... and it won't be a challenge to hit them then!!

Nuf,  I think Tourist was being a bit adventurous in suggesting a Bazuka or Gatling Gun. First you would need

a special dispensation from the MOD, and secondly, you would be restricted to weekend and national holidays for shooting because the turbine owners would reserve normal working days for routine maintanence. But Tourist is right in that a bit of co-lateral damage wouldn't have much effect on the efficiency rating of the turbines.

    R Slicker/Nuf,

Good grief!!  It  amazes me that you two cannot recognise  some black humour  when  you  see it !! Do you think  that  talk of firing  bazookas  and Gatling guns  at wind turbine blades  was  meant to be  taken  literally ???............Of course not!!!..................Do the job  properly, Nuf,  and get  hold  of  an Exocet  guided  missile instead !!!!!!

Re: DOES FARMERS GET SICK OF SHOOTERS

i knocked on 57 farms on saturday all over  northumberland and county durham  and 56  farmers said they had someone shooting for them.  the very last farmer i asked said  he had a feild of about 4acre of rape i could go on he was just starting to get problems with pigeons. so i went up on the sunday and had a good days shooting plus the farmer was well chuffed. so it gives me a little bit hope there is more farmers out there who has no one shooting there land. so i will be out on wedensday looking again

    thanks shaun (nuf)
