    Experienced Lambing Assistant Available

    Hey there,
I have recently moved to the Dumfries and Galloway although i am able and willing to travel and stay in any area of the uk to do a lambing job.
At present, i am doing relief milking and operating a log-splitter for a well known local family although ideally, i need more work!!
I am Originally from the Orkney Isles, im 32 and am from a farming family. I have lots of experience in all types of livestock handling and care, particularly sheep.
Im willing to have a go at most things, hard working and easy to get along with.
I am particularly keen to get a lambing job somewhere, the earlier the better.
I have a full driving licence, have no family commitments and am willing to travel.
Hopefully i will hear something back from this ...........

I tell you what its not very easy to find a lambing job, iv got my name done on a few job sites and theres not a lot about, and the one that are about want someone with loads of experience, iv got 3 years of experience and currently on the 4th at home lambing, but thats not good enough, it difficult to get more if someone don't give you experience. I don't want to sound like im moaning because of having employed people at home, and if they don't know what they are doing its a right bugger.

Perry, if you were a girl Bovril would employ you. He's borrowing some of my sheep for lambing.  Wink

Seriously though, it's very hard to get experience without work and very difficult to get work without experience. Try the NSA they have a register of farms needing lambing help and vice versa. Your problem may be that as someone with some experience, people will be loath to pay you a tidy wage when many students are willing to work for next to nothing just to gain experience (vet students MUST do so many weeks lambing before getting a place at vet school).

I'd say that with 3 or 4 yrs experience you should be able to cope with pretty much anything ? Why not try an ad in FW or Farmers Guardian ?

I'm not doing it for the money, if i were then I would have gone to uni and be working in the city by now. I just feel if your in your own little valley by your self it would be nice to go and see how someone else does it and learn form them.
