    Ford 7840 Electrical problem

    Hi,

Ive got an anoying problem with my 7840 sle. When i change gear from 1-4 the ilumanated display does not light up? and dosent display what gear your in on the dash either. So its a bit annoying not knowing what gear your in. However 5-8 lights up and displays on the dash any ideas?

If it's individual numbers not lighting up then it's bulbs blown. Prise up the bit of plastic with the numbers on, then you can pull out the bulbs with a strong pair of tweezers or a very fine long nosed pliers, get new ones from an auto-electric spares shop (they're probably not a bulb you keep to hand!) and replace.

If the whole bank of lights went out together, then it's probably a wire. As the 5-8 bank lights up it will be close to the lights, find a way in there and give it Mursals famous 'wiggle test' and tracee it from there!

Thanks but it's definately not the bulbs as I replaced them all. Wiggled all the wires but still can't find the problem any other ideas?

LOL, didn't think anyone even read my posts, never mind remember what I said

Not sure, if that gearbox is the old 4 high, over 4 low setup? If so, them the low switch has gone faulty (open-circuit). Think you're in the trade, so just see if you have power the supply side of all the bulbs? You may find you have power to only the top half (5-8) and no power going to the low bulbs?

It would be good to find out how you get on, as most ask a question and then just disappear.

I've learned an awful lot from your advice to people, Mursal. Tractortech too (now then!). Whether I remember it all when I need too is another matter!!
