    Forums on go slow

I've had awful trouble accessing the forums this evening, I get as far as the home page and then it takes for ever.  Tried again at about 7.30pm same happened, I got to home page clicked forums and waited and waited and waited so went and feed the five dogs by the time I'd done that the forum page had been accessed.  Is anyone else having problems or is it just me?

Yes I have been having the same problem. I would like to contribute to some of the fwi forums but I loose interest when it takes for ever for the page to come up...

Couldn't get beyond the home page after ten last night, straight in this morning with no problem.

Yep, i've had the same problem, but the page never loaded - all I got was the 'cannot find server' page.

This problem does seem intermittent and we are investigating as I write. I am sorry for the inconvenience. One thing that we are wondering is whether the might of the Harvest Highlights Gallery (there are now an incredible 800 pictures on there) is slowing things down. If it is ,we'll create a new gallery and start uploading to that one.

    Sorry again.

Could make the link work from http://www.fwi.co.uk/Home/Default.aspx so I tried http://www.fwi.co.uk/community/ and got straight inBig Smile

There's no predictability on this one at the moment. I've tried it from all the differnt URLs you can use to get inot the site ie www.fwi.co.uk/forums and www.fwi.co.uk/community and following the links into galleries like Harvest Highlights. Sometimes it is working and others times not. The tech team is currently running some diagnostic tests and is hoping to have a report which will help to pinpoint the problem in an hour.

I think we may have cracked it. I don't want to tempt fate but let me know if you are still having problems.

Still serious delays or even failures at 10.00pm. Funny you mention Harvest Highlight Pictures, I was just thinking that any programme would be seriously tested with such a volume of photos!  However, my own computer is subject to delaying tactics so I was not sure how much of this problem was related to fwi.co.uk.

My computer is usually pretty well behaved but it seems to still be working to rule!  Only good thing being it has actually managed to get me on here.

I haven't been able to get on the forums all day, and still very slow now.  I also notice that the list of latest postings which usually appears on the left at the foot of the FWi main page seems to have gone missing.  I think those monkeys that work the system have gone off early for their bank holiday!

    Re: Forums on go slow

Ok now but not at all good yesterday.  I had to shut down and restart the browser (IE7) after attempting to log onto this site!  I did just now try using the preview tab and it vanished into oblivion, but I could still post from the compose tab.

Perhaps next time you could try changing the batteries before they run out Wink

    Re: Forums on go slow

I gave up yesterday but got in today. However, when I hit the reply button it took an age to load and the little code in the message box to go.

( I have discovered in the past that if you type and post a message before that little code has gone. The posting is lost.)

I'll let them know that you are still experincing delays. They doubled the processing speed of soemthing yesterday but it obviously still isn't right. Apologies.

I am told they have identified some stray code - that may be causing the problems. What worries me at the moment is there seems to be no consistency to people's experiences. Someone has come in on their day off in order to get this resolved - which I hope demonstates how urgently we want to get to the bottom of this.

     Thanks for your patience.

PS If I post a message I get taken to either a balnk page or a site map message - although my post does go live as normal. Is this just me?

    Right another update.

We're now told that the server may be getting overloaded because we are sharing capacity with another forum based in our building and both will be getting heavy demand at the moment because so many people are looking at images. They are going to have to monitor it for another 12 hr period ie overnight and hopefully we should have more answers in the morning.

I know it means another night of frustration and I am sorry for that. If I could fix it myself I would Super Angry Computer

I just want to assure you all that we aren't ignoring this issue.

BLOODY SITE!!!! I wrote a thesis on how the whole agricultural mess this government has got us in to and the solution to all our problems and also included in my theory on how to turn red bank statements into black, perfect harmony would have ensued if my theory became practice, it was full of intelligence, those that read it proclaimed it as Proffesorship material, banter of the highest wit was weaved right through my masterpiece and all for nothing as this site lost it whilst i posted it and now ive forgot my principles contained in my thesis. Heyho you will just have to put up with my usual tripe sorry.. Blame and sue Isabel!

FWI is a bugger for this ..Last winter it got as i just could not "log in" so contacted isabell ....Whatever they did worked next day.

Last couple of months it's happening again ...Just no response/Timing out.....It's the only site i visit regularly that does this. I find the only way to "log-in" is to pick a post from forum topics and them log in....?

    Re: Forums on go slow

The techno driven geeks who feel that an enhanced user experience with every bolt on site goody is the way to go, have in my view become the tail wagging the dog.

A good agric forum is there for an exchange of views and a source of information. Not an entertainment centre. That is TV not a forum. Pictures of berts new combine or freds tractor are adding nothing.

Of course a picture of something to enhance an explanation is often worth a thousand words.

Ag forums outside West Europe are quick to access and stay on the core issues, not on pictures my combines bigger or newer. Using up valuable band width. Or space as to why freds grain trailer is running on the swath.

    Kind regards
