Game Fair debate on food security

Food security will be the subject of discussion at the Farmers Weekly debate at the Game Fair on July 24. NFU president Peter Kendall, FW columnist David Richardson, CLA president Henry Aubrey Fletcher and Natural England chief exec Helen Phillips will be on the panel - and they'll answer the question: “Should we be worrying about food security in Britain?”

If you aren't going to be able to attend the Game Fair, but would like us to ask the panel a question on your behalf, feel free to post it here...

one of the biggest impediments to food production is the release of millions of hand reared pheasants onto growing crops, usually grown by tenant farmers, who recieve no compensation.

also the proliferation opf deer forests where sheep once grazed.

Re: Game Fair debate on food security

The government woke upto food security when Beckett realized the yanks were concerned in about 2004. It was wraped around climate as everything must be at present. The government then embarked on analysis, with their people and released a statistical analysis in Dec 2006. They have controlled the "narrative" since.

At no point have the government ever been able to join the dot up between food security and agricultural security, in their crafted debate. These dots were bifurcated in the mid 80s by the thatcher Government.

Why do our leaders fail to comprehend that English agriculture security (NOT self-sufficiency) is part of food security?

The failure to provide resources in Agricultural research, knowledge transfer and education is manifestly aweful in England. This is not so in Wales, North Ireland or Scotland. Why is it that English agriculture is singled out for this special treatment by the government?

    Farming is for us, all.

Is UK National food security threatened more by falling incomes or rising prices?

Is UK National food security more of problem for the elderly than young families?

usual tripe, food prices dont need to rise, we just need to go back to the farmer getting 50% of the retail price like 30 yrs ago, not the 15% share we get today.

they say we couldnt go back to guaranteed prices and free advice, drainage and other improvements.

mark my words, when the famine kicks in, the public will be clamouring for the species rich grassland to be ploughed.

what we should be doing is refilling the intervention stores for a rainy day.
