    I will not miss NoW

I haven't looked at or read, well if you can read it..., the News of the World; since I were a boy so that would be 1970. It has apparently a high rate of ABC1 readers as defined by marketeers.

Therefore there must be a large readership in farming so I expect that Fwispace users will miss it. But do they dare say so. Like Cameron they like murdoch too much?

This is the third big social event in as many years starting with the bankers, then politicians expenses now phone hacking. When will the lid go off? When will the people finally say enough is enough. The 5th estate needs to vote with feet and pocket.

Why are people so accepting of all this rubbish happening around us?

Why do people accept poor education and opportunity for the rising generation?

It is always someone else's fault. Farmers slag of supermarkets and go and get their weekly shopping there. When i was young in 1970 we simply stopped buying produce from South Africa, that soon made the retailers sit up and take notice.

    Farming is for us, all.

I last read it around 1955 but think that every diminution of choice of information for the public is a little worrying.

Truth is such an elusive thing that the more choices you have the better to find it. However, I also realise that most sources of information purvey lies, part truths and downright distortions. However the more the better.

As to the actually story. It is interesting how the broadcasting media are chasing the messenger for a headline rather than the phone tapping and police corruption.

I don't take a regular Sunday paper but will occasionally pop into the village shop if I've some time to spare. Sometimes I would bring home the NOTW if I wasn't in the mood for something 'heavier'. I don't think I'll miss it at all, especially as they're already planning to bring out a replacement called The Sun on Sunday, which no doubt will be almost exactly the same I expect.

This whole phone tapping business is shocking to say the least. I didn't take much notice when Royals or Celeb's were hacked, but murder victims and their family's ? That was way below the belt !

I hope those responsble rot in jail !

Bit like a pimple, even though you don't look at it someone always mentions it.

Then just as it starts to disappear, another one pops up. May not be called a pimple, but the same in every other way.

Interesting the hacking story really broke as Murdoch tried to take control of BSkyB, or is that just my cynical mind?

Tell ya, that redhead must be a bit special, closed the paper instead of taking her resignation.

    Now that's loyalty

Saw her on TV the other evening walking up some stone steps. My eyes were inexorably drawn to her; what can only be called, "thunder thighs."

Did anyone else see or read about the crossword in the News of the World? Disgruntled employees having a bit of fun at the boss's exense by the look of it...

I don't think I have ever read the News of the World. I expect that some of the other papers are going to really capitalise on this, especially as the other Murdoch papers seem to be getting into the line of fire as well.

I will not miss the paper but I reckon that most of the 2 million readers will, so someone is going to have to come out with a tacky paper to replace it.

Rebekah Brooks has resigned from News International.

Which is disappointing, we need more strong women at top-level management and she was fast becoming an icon.

    A casualty of circumstance

Murdoch did not gain control of BSkyB, so the timing of the latest instalment in the hacking story has served its purpose

Did anyone hear Gordon Brown's self justifying 30 minute speech in the Commons the other day? He has certainly used his moral compass against our Rupert and Rebecca.
