Hi Smithy, like the video. Where do you fit in or did I miss you in the pics? Are you with the same team since you went out? Would you rather be back home or are the conditions better out there? It looks like a real holiday, but looks can deceive.

A very strange looking header on the combine with cross elevators and ground wheels.

I'm The one stood in front of the header looking like a pastie pomme :)

Been out here in west australia for six years full time now but i did start doing seasonal work about ten years ago . all for the same guy .

Awsome place to work although its a bit warm at the moment , hit 45 degrees two days ago .

wouldn't say it was a holiday but the people are great and it's the same as any job . it's what you make it .

The thing i like the most is the classless sociaty . you work all day with your boss then you can go have a beer with him after work like a mate ;)

The odd looking Header front has those guage wheels because the front is just over 30 feet wide and there is quite a bit of undulating land on the farm

it helps to keep a even height across the font . as for the draper belts , theres a few theory's about that

Yes its good when the boss is working on the ground with you, not telling you where you went wrong from behind a desk. We had minus 11 yesterday so don't knock the heat! Have you guidance on the header or is it just the skill of the pilot? I'd say, those header belts would be a nightmare in a difficult crop, and as for changing them. Is that your sister on the tractor, (nice front guidance rail with the mud flaps by the way) or just a friend?? But I guess you don't get time off to enjoy yourself, anyway.

Yep the header does have green star guidence . very usefull tool if you use it well . the belt are suprisingly good one the combs get wider augers become a pain in the *** . the belt are also supposed to offer the crop in facing the same dirrection which helps thrashing , not that thats a problem on an axial flow .

Not my sister just a friend . she came out with her boyfriend from newzealand . he was working on a neighbouring property and she was after a bit of work ,  getting bored at home , and what do you know , she did the job and was good at it . was a huge laugh and kept us amused all harvest . was a great change to the working enviroment .

I am quite chuffed with my  "mud flaps" i made them in an afternoon including spray painting the little badges . they are on there to lay the stubble down in front of the tyres to stop them getting chopped out especialy in canola "rape"

We get heaps of time in the off seasons  mainly maintainence fencing and stock work then offroad racing at the weekends . it's the life Wink

I didn't think of the stubbles damaging the Tyres, dam tidy job. I thought it was factory fitted. Your Engineering background payed off.

What sort of off road racing do you do, bikes, quads, cars? We have fun Bikes and Quads that we mess about on, but nothing to dangerous. 250 Bultaco's Honda Big Reds that sort of thing. A great way to get rid of the cobwebs, don't you think.

    thanx for the compliment Embarrassed

The offroad racing we do is with single seater home built buggys running road bike motor's the one i built and race uses a kawazaki zx14 ninja motor  and really flies. if you fancy a look we have a website for the club  WWW.wasuperlites.com .  mine is the grey and blue one with union jacks plastered all over it .

love to stick it to the aussies Wink   Also if you click on more videos from finggers on you tube you will see some of our vids .

What sort of property do you run over in ireland ? You been out to oz ? you must be the only irish farm worker not out here already ? Big Smile

They were looking for me to go out, but couldn't afford me!! After seeing your Utube vids I'm nearly sorry I didn't go. Those bugs must have took for ages to build.

We are on a tillage farm, small in comparison to your outfit. The recession has really hit us here and things are not looking good for 2010. The building boom that was keeping everyone going has stopped dead. But we'll just have to sit it out and see what happens. I'd say the back end of the year may see things pickup.
